The St. Petersburg Chapter of Hashtaglunchbag believes in changing the community one brown bag at a time. Hashtaglunchbag is a global movement with a mission of helping underserved communities by providing brown bag lunches. The St Petersburg Chapter is funded and hosted locally by Lawrence Parker and Elizabeth Mack, two St. Pete community members who were looking for a way to do community outreach through a meaningful project that shows "somebody cares." Since May 2019 they've come together monthly with other community members to craft 200 brown bag lunches, which include a turkey and cheese/or peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple or orange, a bottle of water and an encouraging note. They then distribute the bags to various homeless populations around the St. Pete community. The average cost is $250, location has been offered up at no cost, all proceeds are for supplies for the program.
